Monroe County Achievement Center Student Dress Code
All students who attend the Monroe County Achievement Center will be expected to maintain a neat and well-groomed appearance. Students are permitted to wear the following items:
Pants/Slacks/Shorts/Skirts/Dresses
Jeans, shorts, or tailored pants
Skirts or dresses
Skirts or shorts (including holes or slits in any clothing) must be no more than 5” above the knee for both male and female students.
Shirts/Blouses/Tops
All shirts/blouses must have finished edges and be appropriately sized, including waist and length.
Sweaters, fleece pullovers, and sweatshirts (sweatshirt-a loose collarless pullover made of heavy cotton jersey and have a fitted waistband) must not be oversized. A sweater or sweatshirt that hangs lower than the back pockets is considered oversized.
Shoes
Appropriate shoes must be worn at all times. Bedroom shoes are NOT allowed.
Requirements
All clothing must be appropriately sized, including waist and length.
No underpants or midriffs can be exposed.
Hair highlights are allowed at a minimum; however, hair color must not distract from the learning environment. The School Administrator will have the authority to take action on any dyed hair that is deemed to be inappropriate or distracting.
Not Permitted
Pants worn below the natural waist
Wind suits, sweat suits, jogging pants, or leggings
Spandex, lycra, or form-fitting clothing
Sleeveless tops, dresses, tank tops, etc. (the ball of the shoulder should not be exposed)
Mouth adornment (metal grills)
See-through clothing
Visible undergarments
Clothing worn inside out
Low-cut or revealing clothing
Clothing and/or accessories with beer, alcohol, tobacco, or illicit drug advertisements, vulgar writing, gang-related symbols, suggestive scenes, or clothing that displays individuals, bands, or groups, or that promotes aggression or violence
Coveralls/overalls
Blankets
Hats, hoods, head scarves, bandanas, or other disruptive headgear
Non-jewelry items (ex. dog collar type chains, sports straps chains)
Body piercings or visible tattoos that are excessive or distracting.
The school administration has the authority to take action on any dress code item that is inappropriate, distracting, or interferes with the instructional environment.
Students with injuries may need accommodations to the dress code. These accommodations shall be considered for approval upon receipt of notification from a doctor describing the need.
Friday may be designated as Athletic Dress Code days. These will be earned based on the student meeting the weekly discipline and attendance requirement. Below items are acceptable for Athletic Dress Code days:
Wind pants or sweatpants
Athletic shorts
For athletic shorts that would violate our dress code, you still must wear the black tights under those shorts. Shorts that are more than 5 inches above the knee violate the dress code.
Leggings are allowed as long as the shirt/top covers the entirety of the posterior.
Dress Code for Formal/Semi-Formal Events
Events such as Prom, the Homecoming Dance, the Military Ball, etc. are considered semi/formal events, and attire suitable for a formal event is expected. Below are listed the guidelines for what constitutes appropriate attire:

Necklines should be cut above the bust line
Slits and hemlines must remain below fingertip length
Midriff exposure of one inch or less
Blue jeans, t-shirts, or athleisure are not appropriate for semi/formal events.
The following consequences will occur for failure to adhere to the dress code policy:
1st offense - Warning
2nd offense - 1 Principal’s Detention
3rd offense - 2 Principal’s Detention
4th offense - 1 day OSS
5th offense - 1 day OSS
6th offense - 2 days OSS
7th offense - 3 days OSS
If the dress code is deemed egregious by an administrator, the parent may be asked to come and pick up the student.
These consequences reset at the beginning of each semester.
